When we started dreaming up a recipe for dinner with friends our minds went numerous places - creamy tomatillo chicken enchiladas, carne deshebrada quesadillas, carnitas nachos - then it hit us. Part of fun in having friends over for dinner is allowing people to build their own meals. We provide the fix ins, they provide the preferences.
We prepped and cut the carne asada then set it out with all the magical ingredients that combine to make the juiciest, freshest carne asada street tacos. They're called street tacos because of their size,
made using small tortillas - corn or flour, it's up to you.
Happy Friday Yummies. Have a delicious weekend!
YOU WILL NEED
1 beef shoulder
1 tsp pepper, garlic powder, cumin
1/2 tsp salt
3 jars of green chili sauce
Small tortillas (we used flour)
Shredded cheese (we used a Mexican bag combo of jack and cheddar)
Pico de gallo (Chop up some tomatoes, onion, cilantro and a jalapeño pepper. Mix with lime juice, salt and pepper)
Guacamole (puree some avocado slices until smooth. Mix with 2 tbsp of the pico de gallo)
Sour cream (optional)
Pull out your slow cooker
Add the spices to a cup and mix together
Run the beef shoulder with the spices and add to the slow cooker
Pour the three jars of green chili sauce into the slow cooker with the meat and cook for 4-6 hours
Remove the cooked meat from the cooker, slice into thin strips
Add the cut strips back into the cooker with the chili and juices and let sit for 30 minutes
Prepare your tacos by adding a fork full of the meat to a tortilla
Top with whatever fix ins your tummy desires
