If you've never tried an open faced lasagna recipe before, don't worry, it's basically a lasagna but the stuffing stays on top instead of the pasta and sauce.

Caprese is one of our favorite Italian flavor combinations. We've made Caprese salads, Caprese sandwiches, Caprese pizzas and calzones, even Caprese pasta as a quick toss together dinner. Since it seems to work so well in each of these meals we figured why not attempt a Caprese lasagna.

The results did not disappoint. Below you'll find the recipe we used to bring Caprese into the lasagna familia.

Olive oil
1 cup of basil leaves
1 cup of quartered cherry tomatoes
1 cup of fresh buffalo mozzarella chopped
9 al dente cooked lasagna noodles
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp pepper

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees
  2. Boil the lasagna noodles in salted water and cook until al dente
  3. Add a thin layer of olive oil to the bottom of your baking dish
  4. Coat each cooked lasagna noodle in olive oil and add three as the first layer in the baking dish
  5. Toss the basil leaves, cherry tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella together in 1 tbsp of olive oil
  6. Sprinkle the mixture with salt, pepper and garlic powder and toss it all together again
  7. Add 1/3 of the mixture on top of the first layer of pasta
  8. Add another layer of three lasagna noodles in the opposite direction of the first layer
  9. Add another third of the mixture atop the second layer of noodles
  10. Add the third and final layer of lasagna noodles atop the second layer of Caprese mixture
  11. Add the remainder of the Caprese mixture on top of those noodles
  12. Drizzle another layer of olive oil on top of the finished lasagna
  13. Be sure to coat the over edges of the noodles in a thin layer of olive oil so they will brown and crisp
  14. Cook the lasagna in the oven at 350 for 45 minutes
  15. Serve immediately while the cheese is hot and melts perfectly in your mouth
