We're late…again…it's tough this whole working woman during the week thing. Our lead Yumologist is still getting used to blogging while navigating a new job. She promises to get better. For now here are the Week 8 NFL Chili Cookoff recipes.

Seattle Seahawks Salmon Sound Chowder

2 lbs fresh salmon cut into 1" chunks
2 cups of diced potatoes
2 cups of diced celery
2 cups of diced carrots
2 cups of diced leeks
2 cups of diced onions
1 quart of chicken stock
2 tins of cannellini beans
2 tins of diced tomatoes
1 tsp dried parsley
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp white pepper
1/4 cup olive oil
1 cup of dry white wine
1/4 cup lemon juice


  • Bake the potatoes until they are half way done. Remove them from the oven dice and set aside.
  • In a large skillet add the olive oil, white wine, lemon juice, celery, carrots, leeks and onions. Cook until veggies soften and onions and leeks are translucent.
  • Transfer the verges with all the juices to a large stove top pot. Add the potatoes and tomatoes.
  • Add the chicken stock.
  • Add the spices and let heat to a boil.
  • Add the beans and boil again for 10 minutes.
  • Add the salmon chunks and boil for another 10-15 minutes until the salmon becomes flaky and falls apart. Be sure the remove the salmon from the skin before adding it to the pot.


Detroit Lions Motor City Meaty Chili

1 lb of ground beef
1 lb of ground pork
1 cup of sliced kielbasa sausage
1/2 lb of thick cut bacon
2 tins of diced tomatoes
2 tins of kidney beans
1 tin of tomato paste
2 diced yellow onions
1 tbsp minced garlic
1 bottle of dark beer
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tsp cumin
2 cups of beef stock


  • Cook the bacon first in a skillet until well done and crispy. Drain fat and set aside.
  • In a large skillet cook the onions, garlic and ground meats until well done. 
  • Add the tomato paste and diced tomatoes and stir into the ground meats and onion.
  • Add the beer and stir again.
  • Transfer the meat mixture to a large stove top pot. Add the beef broth and kidney beans.
  • Let cook for 30 mins.
  • Add the kielbasa sausage and bacon, stir and serve.
