Middle-aged women of the world rejoice! A study recently conducted by Harvard researchers shows that women in their mid-to-late 50s who drank one to two alcoholic beverages per day were in better health during their early 70s than those who did not drink at all.

Out of the 13,894 women who participated in the study, those with "healthy" drinking habits showed little to no sign of chronic diseases, physical disabilities and mental disorders. Of course good things come in moderation - the women in the best health were those who drank one to two glasses of alcohol per day over a five to seven day period rather than those who crammed the same amount of drinking into a three or four day period.

Overall the research showed that women who indulged in one or two alcoholic beverages per day at midlife were 19% more likely to enjoy good health in their 70s than those who did not drink at all.

Raise your glass ladies, the golden years just went platinum!
