It may seem like a simple advertising slogan for America's dairy farmers but the question has grown more complex over the years...Got Milk? Sure, but out of the numerous options how is one suppossed to know which milk to choose?

Our Yumologists spent today perusing the milk at our local grocers and were bombarded by an array of options: Whole, 2%, Skim, Buttermilk, Soy, Rice, Almond, Coconut, Cashew, Goat, Organic, Non-Organic, where does it end?!

Yumologists admit that the organic and vegan options like soy, rice, almond, coconut and cahew have less fat and go through fewer pasturizing processes than regular cow or goat milk. However, those animal based milk products do offer higher protein and calcium levels for bone and muscle strength.

Searching for healthy options when drinking milk is one thing, but cooking with it is quite another. Many Yumology test kitchen recipes call for milk or milk based products. In numerous test recipes our Yumologists have discovered that soy milk is the best substitue in savory dishes, almond in dessert recipes and in the case of buttermilk, adding lemon juice to a cup of soy milk will mimic buttermilk's flavor, although the texture will be thinner.

We leave the final decision up to you, but we're fairly confident the answer to the Got Milk? question is YES!
